Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Do I have to have recently lost a pet to work with you?

No. Grief can surface weeks, months, or even years later. I work with people at any stage of the grieving process — including before your pet's passing. We can work together to help with the anticipation and fear you might be feeling.

Is this just for pet owners?

No. I also support veterinary professionals, shelter and rescue workers, animal control officers, cruelty investigators, and other first-line animal responders. The grief and stress from caring for animals can be just as real and heavy as losing your own companion.

Can you diagnose mental health conditions?

No. I'm a counsellor, not a doctor or psychiatrist. I can't diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe medication. If you need that kind of care, I can help connect you with the right professional while we continue our work together.

Are you neurodivergent-friendly?

Yes. I welcome neurodivergent clients and work to communicate in a way that works for you. We can discuss what you've experienced in a way that feels safe and respectful.

I work with sensitive cases that are part of legal proceedings. Is confidentiality guaranteed?

Absolutely. After working in a shelter housing animals from cruelty and neglect cases, I understand the need for strict confidentiality. I've navigated keeping sensitive information private for years — details you share will be no different.

We worked together at the SPCA. Will the people we know find out?

No one will know. I consider all cases completely confidential. Even with my dog training clients, I don't advertise, discuss, or share details of any case.
